Santa Santita

Malen is the stubborn daughter of Chayong, a prayer woman who complements her trade with selling rosaries and scapulars. She is soon seduced by Mike, a wily tourist driver and absentee father to a sickly son, who moonlights as a callboy to lonely matrons. Fr. Tony is a troubled priest who seeks sanctuary in Quiapo and is silent witness to Malen's waywardness. When she runs away with Mike, Chayong falls ill and dies of heartbreak.

Malen returns and halfheartedly takes over her mother's job. Much to everyone's surprise, her prayers get answered. Her fame spreads and she begins to earn good money. As for Mike, a customer who avails of his extra services refuses to pay. Furious, he gets involved in a traffic accident turned shootout. He runs to Malen, but when the heat is off, goes to visit his dying son. Meanwhile, after serious illness, Malen's prayer power grows and she gains more believers. She is at once terrified, humbled, and led to repentance by her gift.

But now comes her biggest test. Mike's son has died and he demands of Malen to pray for the impossible. For the first time, she finds herself praying and trusting with all her heart. Can she bring him back to life? Will God grant her this prayer?

Toby Villamor (Alfred Vargas), a criminal defense specialist with a police background, is tasked to do the job.
Don Arcadio’s brother Mariano (Chinggoy Alonso) talks to his wife, Olivia (Chanda Romero). He expresses concern over his brother’s foolish quest. Their daughter Skip (Juliana Palermo), who is more attached to her Uncle Arcadio than any of them, refuses to hear any of it. She walks out on them.
The road to finding the identity of the letter writer leads to many twists and turns. Toby, who is joined by Skip, tracks down Ligaya (Angel Aquino), who is the object of an obsessive policeman’s attention. Major Zabala (Bembol Roco) gets in their way. Ligaya, who served as nurse to Don Arcadio’s late wife, seems to have insurgent connections as seen through her deceased husband and a friend (Jackie Aquino) who is also the wife of a detainee.
When Maj. Zabala arrests Toby for ‘obstruction of an investigation’, Skip brings her gay lawyer-friend (Mon Confiado) to the rescue.
As if all is not complicated enough, Skip’s fiancĂ© Hector (Rodel Velayo), a rich scion, gets jealous of Toby.
All’s well that ends well. The quest for a letter writer becomes a quest for love, which Don Arcadio and Ligaya, Toby and Skip, find in the end.

This he gleans from the point of view of a soul in transit struggling with the task of giving closure to unfinished business in the mortal world from where he has just passed on, although in a manner so untimely.

In the process, getting down to the very core of love, life and the meaning of existence as he hovers angel-like over those he has left behind, his angst-ridden mom, played by Dina Bonnevie; a belligerent younger brother, essayed powerfully by newcomer Alwyn Uytingco; and his teenage girlfriend, Maxene Magalona.

When Cogie meets up with another wandering soul, played by Jiro Manio, who reveals to him the redemptive power of acceptance; helped along by a spirit guide, fleshed out in the movie by Paolo Ballesteros, a new dimension to humanity becomes clear to Cogie and the loved ones he has left behind, especially his family.
